US start-up Kateeva is currently testing an OLED production technique that can produce displays at 60% of the cost of LCD manufacture, Technology Review reports.
The company plans to send the technology, now at prototype stage, to 'leading display manufacturers' in 2011, according to the news website's report.
The announcement from Kateeva is another step towards printing OLED displays to compete with LCDs. The company's most recent estimate of a cost saving over LCD manufacturing is greater than the 70% figure stated by CEO Conor Madigan in September 2009.
Kateeva is working towards large-scale manufacturing of OLEDs by 2013.
