Holst Centre releases new OLED manufacturing technology

17 Mar 2010

The new sintering technology could form part of a future process for high-volume manufacturing of OLEDs and OPVs. Source: Holst CentreRoll-to-roll (R2R) production of OLEDs and organic solar cells has moved a step closer at the Holst Centre, following the development of a sintering platform to rapidly cure printed conductive structures.

OLED-Info reports that the new technology will contribute to a complete system for R2R. The Holst Centre already has technology for printing, coating, drying and laminating, and is developing vacuum lamination.

The new sintering technology uses a photonic sintering process, which heats the target material rather than the whole substrate. This means the process can be done at lower temperatures, protecting against distortion and reducing operational costs.
