Despite the promise of better quality images from OLED televisions, market analyst firm iSuppli predicts that they will form only a small proportion of the growth in OLED products.
Asian news website TechOn reports that active-matrix OLED revenue will become 200 times bigger by 2015, but that OLED televisions will remain only a small niche in this market.
The iSuppli report, Next Phase of OLED Volume Production Entails Tough Challenges, predicts that shipments of OLED panels for televisions will reach just 850,000 units in 2013 and 4.7 million in 2015, compared to 25,000 in 2009 - whereas the LCD television panel market is predicted to hit 232.6 million units in 2013.
