The US Department of Energy (DoE) has recently published a summary report from its two Solid-State Lighting (SSL) manufacturing workshops, held earlier this year.
The workshops were first steps in the launch of a new R&D manufacturing initiative by the department to enhance consistency and quality of both LED and OLED lighting and to speed up cost reductions through manufacturing improvements.
Companies that attended the workshops included DuPont, Universal Display Corporation (UDC), Kodak and GE Research.
Because they need less energy than incandescent lighting LEDs and OLEDs are regarded as sustainable lighting technologies for many markets and applications including buildings, street lighting and automotive.
