The UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has unveiled its strategy to make the UK 'a global leader' of the future plastic electronics industry at its London conference.
The department will also invest £8 (€8.8) million in new initiatives to encourage collaboration on manufacturing processes and new product development.
Business Secretary Peter Mandelson stated at the launch: 'Plastic electronics technology has the capacity to revolutionise the way we do things and shake up whole industries. And it's a sector where Britain has huge potential for leadership, employment and growth.
'The UK is already a global leader in the sector thanks to our world-class science-base and our strengths in research, creativity and innovation. We now need a roadmap for the industry that takes it from cutting edge to mass market, while keeping Britain firmly in front.'
The UK Printed Electronic Technology Centre received £20 million earlier this year to build up production processes, which will initially be used for OLED lighting.
