Showa Denko’s EL results light the way

21 Aug 2009

Showa Denko, a leading chemical and materials manufacturer in Japan, is developing a phosphorescent polymer organic EL display and recording light extraction efficiencies of 40%.

According to TechOn, Showa Denko intends to launch samples in the lighting market in 2010.

Showa DenkoThe luminance efficiency of the device is 30lm/W, which the company claims is the world's highest level efficiency for an organic EL device made by a coating process.

Showa Denko plans to advance the development of the organic EL device by making improvements to the structure of the display and working alongside a SRI International, a US-based independent research institute.

The company has already developed a white organic EL device and has recorded lifetimes of about 10,000 hours. The firm also plans to further extend this and enhance the coating performance of the phosphorescent material by using expertise gleaned from its joint ventures.
