An opinion column on the San Jose Mercury News website, picked up by science and technology website Physorg, argues that compatibility will be a deciding factor in the success or failure of the e-reader business.
A number of developers are already competing to create the standout device in the e-reader market. Added to the possibility that the iPad could compete with its own e-book app, some fundamental points about this nascent market are yet to be established, including target audience, content types, file sharing and the ideal device design.
