Clothing firms will benefit from new guidelines on the use of RFID technology in products and the supply chain, according to apparel news website Just-style.
The guidelines from EPCglobal cover RFID-based Electronic Articles Surveillance (EAS) and explain how such technologies can be integrated into clothing, to better manage security and stock.
The new guidelines bring together information on EAS systems and RFID technology, so that intelligence on the theft of products and inventory tracking is improved for retailers.
RFID tags are seen as a replacement for barcodes and other product tracking technology for logistics and authentication. Developers in the clothing industry are working on the integration of RFID tags in clothes - German R&D institute Fraunhofer IZM is working on Textralog, a project integrating RFID tags into textiles.
