Solar jacket enters Italian fashion market

German partner Interactive Wear has been working on wearable electronics, such as LED clothing, for the sportswear and leisure marketsA solar powered jacket, developed in collaboration with German Interactive Wear and Italian firm Thermore has been made available by Ermenegildo Zegna.

According to wearable electronics blog talk2myshirt, the jacket uses detachable solar cells, which can be integrated into the sleeves of the jacket, to harness energy. The jacket then uses integrated electronics to store and transfer power to portable electronic devices, such as mobile phones.

The Ecotech Solar Jacket builds on Zegna's previous experience in producing clothing with added electronic functionality. In 2007, the company unveiled the Solar JKT, with solar panels integrated into the collar.
