Japanese company Sumitomo Chemical has developed a technology that could boost the production of large OLED displays for TV usage.
The company uses macro molecule materials as the main OEL component, instead of low-molecular materials. This is expected to lower production costs by up to 50 percent, and will allow for more screens to be built, which could make it possible to mass-produce OLED TVs. Sumitomo expects its annual output of displays using the technology to reach four to five million at 40-inches, reports the website TechCrunch.
Sumitomo is ready to set up a production facility in Osaka before the end of 2011, and will start production of screens in early 2012.
