Corning launches new flexible glass for displays

07 Jun 2012

US glass developer Corning has launched a new flexible glass which could be used with flexible electronic products.

Corning Willow Glass will allow for flexible displays, while becoming an effective barrier layerCorning Willow Glass supports thin backplanes and colour filters for LCD and OLED displays, and will help manufacturers to develop curved displays through roll-to-roll production techniques, states a company press release. It will also allow for thinner, lighter displays in items such as smartphones and tablets. It works as well as a standard glass seal on OLED displays, forming an effective barrier against moisture and oxygen.

The glass was launched at the SID Display week in Boston, US, and Corning is currently shipping sample to interested developers.
