Ignis develops OLED display with high pixel density

29 Nov 2011

Canadian company Ignis Innovation has announced a new AMOLED display, with a pixel density of 330ppi.

The new circuit and driver allows for a pixel density of 330dpi, rivalling retina displaysTraditionally, AMOLED displays have not been able to challenge the pixel density of retina displays as used by Apple, as polysilicon backplanes don't provide uniform current, resulting in display deformities. Ignis has produced a TFT pixel circuit and driver to compensate for this, allowing a higher density and a sharper display. Ignis will licence the technology to other display manufacturers reports the Trusted Reviews website.

The company hopes its new developments will make AMOLED displays the choice of smartphones, offering the same resolution as retina displays, but with better colour quality, contrast and viewing angles.
