Korean electronics manufacturer LG is to start mass production of OLED televisions by 2013, according to an OLED-Info report.
With the television market representing a lucrative area in the display field, OLED technology has yet to break through, largely due to the end cost to the consumer, according to a report by Digitimes.
Production costs and technical constraints have limited OLEDs to the small and medium-sized display markets, for instance in smartphones.
Despite this, LG are planning to push forward with large-size OLED displays. It is looking for a supply chain at present, and will be in a position to mass produce television screens in two years' time.
