New partnership to further develop eyewear displays

US display technology company Vuzix has announced a strategic development agreement with the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS.

The partnership agreement will enable further development of Vuzix's existing range of eyewear displaysThe two parties are engaged in the development of MEMS devices, used in virtual and wearable display solutions and the agreement will allow them to develop a key component that integrates display and optics into a monolithic display engine, allowing for sunglasses styled video glasses. The new HD display engine being created will allow such glasses to be produced for mass market applications, according to a company press release (see link below)

Vuzix glasses are mainly developed for industrial and defence markets, as well as for consumer use, and the partnership agreement is believed to enhance opportunities in this market.
