The number of companies with established manufacturing sites for OLED displays will grow in the coming years, taking production to 200 million units per year by 2014, says analyst firm Displaysearch.
Jennifer Colegrove, director of display technologies at the company, spoke to International Business Times about the ongoing expansion of OLED production facilities taking place at companies such as Samsung.
Colegrove's comments contrast with a report from fellow analyst company iSuppli suggesting predicted OLED shortages could harm the Android smartphone market.
iSuppli warned earlier in July that the number of Android phones using OLEDs was likely to outstrip supply volumes.
The expected growth in OLED display production, driven particularly by plans for OLED televisions, was covered in +Plastic Electronics magazine Volume 2, issue 6.
Volume 3, issue 2 of +Plastic Electronics magazine will include special features on the development and commercialisation of OLEDs for display applications. To find out more or subscribe in time for the next issue, visit our Magazine page.
