Display company Polymervision recently demonstrated its fully rollable display technology at the IDTechEX Electronics USA event.
The device uses a reflective electrophoretic display, and a proven, mature organic TFT, optimised to have a turn-on voltage of around 0V, resulting in low power operation. The display is able to cope with variations in the backplane technology, allowing for longer lifetimes. The display also includes an ITO replacement to take into account its flexibility, reports Printed Electronics World
The device is a first step towards truly flexible displays, independent of a rigid substrate, although there is development needed for TFTs before they can support an OLED display.
