US firm PowerFilm has unveiled a product combining its flexible solar cell technology with a thin-film display.
The company's subsidiary, Phicot is overseeing the products, developed in conjunction with HP. Within two years, it hopes to deliver a durable thin-film display screen to the US military, for soldiers to be able to wear on clothing, states a report by the Des Moines Register. The technology uses the same roll-to-roll manufacturing that PowerFilm uses to produce its flexible solar cells.
The company is already looking at possible applications in the consumer market for future expansion.
