Samsung Mobile Display has entered into a patent licensing deal with Universal Display for use of the US company's OLED materials.
The agreement means Samsung has access to over 1000 patents in phosphorescent materials, used in OLED screens to boost brightness and energy efficiency. The deal is seen as crucial to the OLED display industry, as production costs are expected to drop while quality increases, according to a report by The Korea Times. Samsung is prepared to push forward with OLED production, which it sees as ready to challenge LCD technology.
According to the report, the company is already facing rising demand in OLED technology from both local and overseas clients.
