A centre for the mass-production of organic electronics has opened in Muttenz, Switzerland.
The centre, opened by Centre Suisse d'electronique et de Microtechnique (CSEM), will develop and industrialise micro and nanotechnologies for polymer surfaces. Combining new materials with large-scale production processes will reduce costs of manufacture and produce items for a wide range of electronics, such as displays, lighting, and photovoltaics, reports New Electronics.
The development centre for polymer electronics - dubbed 'poltronics' by CSEM - will primarily focus on photovoltaics and the protection of high-value items such as pharmaceuticals, medical technology products, and the development of new sensor platforms for biotechnology.
