UK-based solar company Eight19 announced plans to produce nanotechnology-based solar cells at a recent energy summit.
The start-up from Cambridge University spoke at the Economist Conference about the need to use less material to produce photovoltaic (PV) technologies. The company's technology will use just 1kg of photovoltaic materials to produce printed plastic solar film, which could cover the whole of Wembley Stadium football pitch in London, according to a press release.
The company's printing and coating processes are also able to maximise carbon reductions, otherwise heightened with more conventional processing techniques.
