US organic solar firm Konarka has entered into a collaboration agreement with automotive supplier Webasto to use its PowerPlastic solar cells in vehicles.
The organic solar cells will be integrated into Webasto's automobile roofing systems. The agreement with Konarka will allow Webasto to target areas such as the hybrid car market, where cells could charge electric batteries, according to a Konarka press release. The companies will also work together to increase efficiencies of Konarkas cells for automotive use.
PowerPlastic cells can be transparent, which could see them installed as a see-through roof, allowing light into a vehicle cabin while charging various systems.
