Taiwan has unveiled its first homegrown roll-to-roll sputtering machine for solar cell manufacturing, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The prototype is expected to bring manufacturing costs down by a third, while achieving international environmental standards. The technique is rarely used in the country due the high price of machinery and complicated processes, states a report by Eco-Business. The MOEA expects the new vacuum disposition system to give local firms an edge in organic photovoltaic production by 2012.
The machine represents Taiwan's efforts to bolster its solar energy industry in the global market.
