Tanaka to manufacture dyes for organic solar cells

Japanese company Tanaka Precious Metals is to begin supplying ruthenium dye compounds for dye-sensitised solar cells (DSC).

The dyes have high efficiency levels and were licenced by the National Central University, TaiwanTanaka has taken out licences from the National Central University in Taiwan, to manufacture and supply the compounds, which have a conversion efficiency of 11.4% and operate in the visible light wavelength range of 400-750nm, reports the PVTech website. The company has also licensed a dye with a conversion efficiency of 9.5%, with annual sales forcast at ¥300 million (€3 million) by 2015.

Tanaka is currently developing a high-yield manufacturing process that will offer a stable supply of the dye.
