Japanese company Tanaka Precious Metals is to begin supplying ruthenium dye compounds for dye-sensitised solar cells (DSC).
Tanaka has taken out licences from the National Central University in Taiwan, to manufacture and supply the compounds, which have a conversion efficiency of 11.4% and operate in the visible light wavelength range of 400-750nm, reports the PVTech website. The company has also licensed a dye with a conversion efficiency of 9.5%, with annual sales forcast at ¥300 million (€3 million) by 2015.
Tanaka is currently developing a high-yield manufacturing process that will offer a stable supply of the dye.
