iRhythm Technologies, a developer of wearable cardiac care devices, has launched a small stickable patch that can retrieve healthcare data.
The Zio Patch is embedded in a thermoplastic elastomer and incorporates electrodes, analogue parts, a microcontroller, and memory. A USB port allows a doctor to retrieve the data it stores. A result of five year's work, the patch records an analogue heartbeat signal and converts it to digital, before storing it as memory. The device is also waterproof and non-intrusive, states a report by Design News.
The patch is powered by a built-in lithium polymer battery and is designed to collect data for 14 days while being comfortable for the patient.
