UDC to develop OLEDs for cabinet lighting

01 Sep 2009

White OLEDs are ideal for ambient interior lightingThe US Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded the Universal Display Corporation (UDC) $1.65 (€1.1) million to produce a series of thin, low-power, white OLEDs for use in interior lighting applications.

A handful of under-cabinet prototype lighting units will be made for the DOE, based on the company's high-efficiency, phosphorescent OLED technology.

UDC says the units will provide comparable performance to existing under-cabinet systems, have a system efficiency of > 60 lumens per watt, and enable a significantly thinner form factor than conventional under-cabinet lighting products.
