German lighting manufacturer Osram has announced a breakthrough in OLED lighting development, with a new efficiency record.
The company has measured a laboratory sample at 87 lumens per watt, while retaining aesthetic and technological characteristics such as lifetime and thinness. The measurement was conducted without any unnatural influence, reports LEDs Magazine. The sample tested was created using organic material which provided product relevant lifetimes, and was prepared using a pure thin-film approach, with current distributed evenly over the active surface using a special injection electrode.
Osram are now evaluating plans for industrialisation of the technology, as they move towards their goal of 100lm/w.
