Osram, the lighting subsidiary of Siemens, has opened its pilot-line manufacturing plant for OLEDs in Germany.
The company has invested €20 million in the new high-tech facility, which enables the manufacture of OLED panels. The move allows Osram to focus on increasing OLED brightness and improve panel durability, while reducing costs by up to 90%, reports LEDs Magazine. The company believes the facility represents a major leap to the widespread use of OLED panels in lighting.
Orsam has already invested nearly €50 million in OLED research and development in the past five years.
