An Israeli designer has created a concept that merges organic photovoltaics with OLED lighting to brighten up cityscapes.
Meidad Marzan developed the UrbanTiles concept with the Bezalel Academy of Art & Design, to show how the technology could light up a city at night. The reversible tiles have organic photovoltaic cells on one side to collect energy during the day, and the other side features an OLED lighting panel. The idea is to make the designs interactive, creating urban canvases on skyscrapers, reports Treehugger.
While only a concept, the UrbanTiles idea shows how hybrid technologies are being considered as applications for the future.
