Displays manufacturer AOU has shown a prototype of a flexible e-paper display, powered by an integrated solar cell.
The company has mounted a flexible photovoltaic battery on the back of the display, creating an e-reader that can be rolled up and charged without mains power. The prototype ifeatures a 6-inch display, with a resolution of 800x600px and requires 218mW of power to refresh a page, a figure that is achievable with strong sunlight, reports technology website Geek.com. It weighs just 10g without a frame, and is just over 0.1mm thick.
AOU has not stated whether the device will be put into full production, or given any details of possible cost.
