The Ectaco Jetbook colour e-reader will be launched globally in 2012, having been well received in eastern Europe.
The device uses a 9.7-inch Triton colour display screen from E Ink, offering 1,600 x 1,200 pixel resolution. Features include Wi-Fi connectivity and text-to-speech.
The company believes the product is well suited to the student market, as the colour screen allows for better rendering of graphics, tables and graphs. There are also several features included for students, such as an interactive periodic table, and scientific calculator, reports the mobiletor.com website.
The device is expected to cost $499 (€384) and will begin shipping in the middle of January 2012.
