The UK's Centre for Process Innovation is to invest in a new prototyping and development facility for printed electronics.
Based at CPI's Printable Electronics Technology Centre (PETEC), in Sedgefield, the thought behind investment is to provide a new manufacturing resource to the printable electronics sector. The centre believes it is possible to print electronic circuits through existing print infrastructure, and this will open a huge opportunity for printed products, such as packaging, including moving displays, printed batteries and sensors, according to a report by Electronics Weekly.
The new facility, part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is expected to be fully operational by early 2012.
