New report sees potential for gold nanoink

Industry analyst firm Nanomarkets has released a new report that highlights the potential of gold inks in nanotechnology.

Gold nanoink could be used in printed sensors according to the new report.Printed Gold: Gold Inks and Pastes Market - 2011, examines their use in the electronics and solar industries, looking at their use beyond traditional means. According to Nanomarkets, the main new business opportunities for materials considered in the report will come from novel applications using nanoinks. Printed gold could be used to increase efficiency in solar products, while printing is becoming more established as a fabrication tool for making sensors, especially large area sensors, paving the way for printed gold opportunities in the future, states Marketwatch.

The company estimates the total volume of gold consumed by gold inks and pastes will reach 13.7 tonnes by 2016.
