RFID labels printed on paper

16 Mar 2011

French RFID producer Tageos has announced plans to start printing RFID labels onto paper.

Tageos RFID tags can be printed onto paper, without the need for plastic substrate. Image: TageosAccording to a report by the RFID Journal an RFID tag can be fully placed onto a paper label, including a very thin aluminium antenna, rather than a plastic substrate. By doing this, the company says cost of production can be reduced by 10-30%, as production is simplified, and the number of materials used is cut.

The new labels could make item-level tagging more feasible, as production costs move closer into the range for individual product packaging.
