UK retail giant plans second-generation RFID trials

Marks & Spencer (M&S) is planning to run trials for a new generation of RFID chips for its stores in 2011, says Packaging News.

In another printed electronics project Tigerprint, part of Hallmark, is set to produce cards for M&S store shelvesThe UK retailer will use new RFID tags with smaller data chips, meaning the tag sizes can be reduced.

The company also suggested that printed electronic RFID is being considered, according to Packaging News.

M&S has also shown an interest in printed electronics for novelty cards, as exclusively revealed in +Plastic Electronics Volume 3, issue 1.
