Two projects to develop fabrics with integrated textiles will receive AUS$4.2 million (€1.7 million) in funding from the Australian Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research.
The projects involve creating wearable electronics for the military and a photovoltaic (PV) fabric for rooftops, according to Electronics News.
Global Safety Solutions & Management will create the military clothing, including RFID for wearer location. Sensors will also measure stress levels or chemical exposure.
Specialty Coatings will create the PV fabric, and will test and commercialise the materials using its funding.
